  • iCopy on Autodesk Labs
    May 18, 2009 12:27 PMby Garin Gardiner

iCopy Technology Preview is now on Autodesk Labs!

Many of you often require multiple instances of a standard element that needs to be adjusted with each occurrence. When dealing with a large number of elements, making these adjustments manually is time-consuming and prone to error.

When we hear about these types of challenges it is for products that range from curtain walls, bridges, conveyors, handrails, and trusses to name a few.

The Autodesk Inventor iCopy Technology Preview can significantly improve productivity by enabling you to make multiple copies of an assembly that automatically resize to fit their design. By capturing a few key constraints, such as connection points and paths, iCopy creates and inserts multiple instances of the assembly and automatically adjusting the size and shape of each occurrence based on their functional requirements.

    iCopy for Inventor helps you:
    ·         Save time by easily customizing commonly-used assemblies
    ·         Avoid errors when working with complex designs involving multiple paths
    ·         Innovate by exploring multiple design iterations quickly

    Get it today!

It’s exciting new technology that many of you can take advantage of today. For more information take a look at the labs site to download iCopy as well as a tutorial to get started.

  • I want to be a Pilot!
    April 30, 2009 05:17 PMby Garin Gardiner

3DConnexion recently released their latest and greatest "3D Mouse" the SpacePilot Pro. I have been a long time user of their products - so much so I use to get stopped at airport security while they searched my bag to find a strange device with a solid aluminum base. My portable SpaceNavigator has as many miles in the air as I do since I can't leave home without it.

I am a big gadget guy (my wife can attest to that) so you can imagine my excitement when we got a few SpacePilot Pro's to play around with. I have been using it for about a month and have to say it's by far the most useful desktop 3D mouse I have used. I had the old Pilot and liked it although the screen was lost to me since I didn't really ever use it. With the new Pilot Pro I can see my Outlook calendar and task items (as well as standard Inventor commands) while I am working in Inventor. You can also display RSS feeds and use it as a Sideshow (Vista) screen where you can download many gadgets (it might be cool to show the weather).

Besides all of the neat extras, the buttons are clearly marked and for whatever reason I find myself using them much more than I have with any other device. I still like my trusty SpaceNavigator for notebooks but while I am in the office working, this is a must have for me. If you would like to know more about the SpacePilot Pro, head on over the 3D Connexion site.

  • Team Autodesk - MS Ride
    April 27, 2009 11:34 PMby Garin Gardiner

Its about that time of year again, we have gathered together several folks out of our Autodesk Portland Oregon office to join us in a local MS Ride. We have posted a goal to raise 15,000 in which Autodesk will match anything we raise. I will be joining the team and look forward to helping reach our goal as well as riding over 100 miles August 1st.

If any of you would like to donate (any amount) to a good cause and help the Autodesk team reach our goal, please select the link to the right. You never know, perhaps I will beat out my co-worker who has set a goal at $2,000.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Official Autodesk Inventor Podcast Episode 34 - Inventor 2010 Preview (Layout Design and Assembly Analysis)
    March 25, 2009 01:40 PMby Garin Gardiner

It's been a few weeks since I posted my first podcast around what's new in Inventor 2010. There is way too much to show in a few podcasts but I intend on having probably 4 podcasts around the main enhancements to Inventor. This episode we will discuss Layout Design and Assembly Level Analysis. I think you will find some great nuggets here and look forward to hearing what you think about the new version.

This is the second of several episodes I will post around 2010 so stayed tuned.

I have been looking forward to both sketch level layout design as well as being able to run an FEA analysis on an assembly. Great stuff but I might be a little bias

  • Official Autodesk Inventor Podcast Episode 33 - Inventor 2010 Preview
    March 11, 2009 06:54 PMby Garin Gardiner

After my last podcast I received several emails about when I would post something for Inventor 2010. Wait no longer to get your first shot of some of the new tools for Consumer Products such as Plastic Parts, Multi Body Support and integration with Alias Studio.

This is the first of several episodes I will post around 2010 so stayed tuned.

Just because I mention these are for Consumer Products there are many great uses for these tools other than for consumer products. Multi Body can be used in almost any environment to be sure to try it out when you get your hands on it.
