Autodesk University Recap
December 8, 2004 03:29 PMbyWe are all back safe and sound from a week in Las Vegas at AU. So much for my good intentions of posting to the blog throughout the week - a few extra minutes of sleep seemed more important!
AU Attendance was at a record high with 4,400 attendees, up 23% from last year's 3.400. It was pretty darn overwhelming. We hosted a few MSD events so we could find our own users and the Inventor product managers also wore red shirts and hung out in the booth quite a bit.
On Tuesday we had a standing room only session where Buzz Kross (our VP) talked about our business strategy. He spent a lot of time talking about data management and how we hope to give you more time to do engineering and design by reducing the time spent assigning part numbers and other un-fun tasks such as managing files or paper documents.
On Wednesday evening we hosted a party for over 1,000 MSD customers in the trendy Tabu lounge at the MGM. This was a great time for us to talk about the products with customers though I could barely speak the next day from shouting above the noise in the place. I personally had many constructive conversations with users on how we can improve our solutions. At the party we presented the prizes to 2004 Innovation Awards contest winners. The design contest, held every year leading up to Autodesk U, has some great prizes- including 1,000 cash and a free trip to AU. The winners for this year were Adam Wright, Todd Hudgins, Pete Van Hoff and student winner Don Snyder and their designs are featured in this PDF poster.
There was so much more exciting stuff that happened during the week and it really was a testament to the great community of users we have. There have been lots of recaps of AU on the web, but this one by Susan Smith of the GISCAFE in particular gave a great summary of the keynotes if you are interested.
Please consider attending AU next year. We are changing coasts and will be in Orlando, FL at Walt Disney World, so I'm sure a lot of people will be bringing their families.

2004 Autodesk Inventor Customer Design Contest
December 1, 2004 05:16 PMbyGreetings from AU! Well I'm on my second day and my feet are already killing me- but oh the fun we are having. There is a lot of positive energy at the show and the Inventor Product Managers are getting lots of constructive feedback from our users. I had every intention of sharing pictures on the blog, but as it turns out I've forgotten my camera! So I'll just have to improvise. Tonight we are announcing the winners of the Innovation award and I'll share those with you tomorrow.
In the mean time you might not know about a non-AU related contest that was completed recently. Customers from all over the world competed in the 2004 Autodesk Inventor Customer Design Contest to win a variety of prizes sponsored by HP. Check out the winners here
Using the navigation buttons on the left of the contest page, you'll also find the Autodesk Inventor Customer Design Gallery. Here customer designs are sorted by industry.
Enjoy.
