Mini Inventor Survey
May 26, 2004 02:45 PMbyWe are running a short survey on a few Inventor features, specifically Design Assistant, Design Tracking and Inventor's multi-user environments. (e.g. Semi-Isolated, Shared and Vault). We would like to know if you are using them and what you like about them. This short survey should only take a few minutes to complete. You can use the following link to take the survey.

International Flavor & More Useful Links...
May 24, 2004 09:09 PMbyGreetings from Japan,
I'm here at an AIP workflow review with George Hudetz, a product designer on AIP. I've been to Japan may times and the novelty just never wears off. Inventor is localized into 12 languages and the UI looks cool in all them. All the buttons are in the same place, so I can even pretend to read these languages. Check out this image of the AIP Cable and Harness panel bar in Japanese. (click on it for a larger image.)

I've also learned of some addition resources around the world. Check out these links:
Korean Inventor Users Site (http://inventor.gocad.co.kr/)
German Inventor Newsgroup (http://Inventor.CAD.de)
Dutch 3D Design Forum (http://www.3ddesignforum.net)
Dutch Inventor Users Forum (http://www.inventorusers.nl)

Selection Filters in Drawings
May 13, 2004 01:17 PMby
I receive many questions from customers about the ability to control what's selected during window/crossing-window select in drawings. Here's how it works: By default, Autodesk Inventor will select everything within the window including the drawing view itself, which may be unwanted behavior. You can set a selection filter to control which objects are selected during a selection task. Inventor ships with the following predefined filters in Drawing Manager:
-Select All - select everything within the drawing (default)
- Layout Filters - filters the selection for any item that has to do with the layout of the drawing, i.e. Draft Views, Views, Section Lines, etc.
- Detail Filters - filters the selection for any item related to annotations, i.e. dimensions, text, symbols, etc.
-Custom Filters - allows you to set which objects to filter for such as: center lines, hole notes, hole tables, dimensions, etc.
As a quick example, let's say you wanted to select all balloons within your drawing. Simply go to the Filters pull down and select 'Edit Select Filters', select Balloon (make sure only Balloon is selected). Now when you do any selection, Inventor will only select balloons.

May 13, 2004 09:14 AMbyAnother source of useful Inventor information is the monthly column we write for Cadalyst magazine. Kevin Schnieder from our Tech Marketing group usually writes these, but I did write one on linking ACAD E and AIP a while back.
You can view the entire list of articles here.
The last three topics covered were:
Getting to the Good Parts By: Kevin Schneider
Autodesk Inventor tools help you find and organize specific components quickly.
Inventor 8 adds time-saving tools By: Kevin Schneider
Inventor 8 shipped in December. Here's a quick tour of major improvements in the new version.

More Helpful Links
May 4, 2004 09:22 AMbySome more useful links have been called to my attention. If you can read German, one of our resellers has set up a very helpful FAQ site at:
http://www.inventor-faq.de/
Additionally, the tips, tricks and downloads on the www.cadforum.cz site also comes highly recommended. It has a lot of content in English and Czech and some German. the English Inventor Tips can be found at:
http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/default.asp?tab=2&CAD=Inv
And the Inventor Digital Digest newsletter has been rebranded as Inventor Connections, you can sign up at http://www.inventorconnections.com.
