International Flavor
July 16, 2005 02:52 PMbyIt only seemed fitting to highlight something international today, since I'm sitting here in the Denver airport waiting to board a flight to Frankfort and then on to Bangalore, India. This will be my first visit to India and I'm looking forward to meeting lots of Inventor users. I've remembered to pack my digital camera and will hopefully have some pictures to share.
I wanted to take a minute and highlight a recent success story we just published in the area of education. At the University of Newcastle in the UK students are reinforcing their engineering education using Autodesk inventor and are applying their knowledge and skills to the real world. Newcastle's School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering is entering the Formula One Student competition and will use Inventor to design and manufacture a single seat racing car to compete against 19 other universities. Inventor Help Tips and Tricks
July 8, 2005 04:18 PMbyEver wonder what we do with your feedback about the help system? Well we use it to make improvements for the future. We don't just wait till the next release. We post additional help topics to our website in response to your questions. These are valuable tips and workflows that you've told us are important to your day to day productivity with Inventor. We just added one on using positional representations. You can also find information on creating a mirrored part, displaying alternate units and patterning a pattern as well as about a dozen more. Keep the feedback coming and we'll do our best to respond.

Deep Flight I
July 6, 2005 05:03 PMbyDid you know that Autodesk is the founding sponsor of Hawkes Ocean Technologies Deep Flight I, a proof-of-concept underwater winged vehicle designed for deep sea exploration. Deep Flight 1 was designed by inventor and engineer Graham Hawkes using Autodesk Inventor Professional.
The vehicle relies on a unique inverted wing design, that enables the submersibles to travel quickly and quietly downwards using "negative lift"? that drives the vehicle down at a rate of 300 feet per minute into the undiscovered deep. Check it out at www.deepflight.com.
In Chicago, June 23-26, the Deep Flight 1 was on display at the Navy Pier Festival Hall. Graham Hawkes participated in two panel discussions on Saturday, each attended by upwards of 500 people. He expounded upon the importance of Autodesk design software in the design and production of these deep sea submersibles.
Over 12,000 people toured the exhibits at NextFest over the weekend. Friday was Education day, during which more than 500 children climbed in and out of Deep Flight I, to imagine for themselves what underwater flight might feel like. Hopefully inspiring lots of future engineers and inventors.
