Inventor Blogging in the Philippines
March 23, 2006 11:43 AMbyI just came across some cool images on Karla Redor's blog. Karla's an AE at one of our resellers and her bio describes her as a "20-something graduate of DLSU- Manila. An engineer, amateur photographer, graphic and layout artist." She teaches Inventor and has an Inventor section on her blog that includes some really fun renderings. Two Inventor Customers in the News
March 23, 2006 11:04 AMbyI recently came across two articles in MCAD Online that featured Inventor users.
Martyn Day wrote the first article on Chuck Hoberman, an inventor, artist and mechanical engineer who uses Inventor to design transformable dome-like structures. He has worked on all kinds of cool folding structures that are as much art as they are functional.
The second piece covers how Inventor sits at the core of Conveyor Lines' complete development lifecycle, from initial concept design to final testing and production.

Got Parts?

One of the new features that was not in the Beta is a peer-to-peer component sharing area. You will be able to log-on and upload your favorite parts. We are also running a contest for the members that submit the 5 best parts, as judged by the community members. The prize is a free iPod!

What's New in Inventor 11

Actually it's quite a large document that outlines everything New in Inventor 11. It's awesome - this is our biggest release ever with 100's of little things we didn't even have room to mention in this document. More details to follow.

Inventor 11 is Coming
March 11, 2006 09:58 AMbyIt's almost time for R11 and we can now start talking freely about it. Last week we had a great event with about a dozen technical editors and product reviewers. We brought them to our offices in Tualatin Oregon to show off what's coming. It was hard to choose what to focus on since this is a huge release for Inventor. We opted to review what's coming in large assembly management, configurations, plastic part design, dynamic simulation and our integration with AutoCAD Electrical. The first day we had lots of demos and some presentations and on the second day 4 of the more technical editors did some hands on work.
At the end of the event we took them to the regional First Robotics competition. Where high school teams build a robot in 6 weeks (many using Inventor) and then compete in a basketball like challenge for 2 days. They also get awards for their design aesthetics, marketing, their website and renderings and animation with Max. Check out my photos:

Display Parameters in Parts List
March 5, 2006 05:48 PMbyHave you ever wanted to display user parameter in the parts list of a drawing?
There are a few quick steps that will allow you to associatively link a parameter to your parts list (such as cut length). First you need to create a user parameter or locate a model parameter in a part and select the Export Parameter option. Once you have a parameter that has been set up to be exported, create a drawing with a parts list. Edit the parts list and select the fist icon (Column Chooser) and select New Property. Click on the text <<Click here to add new property>> and type in the name of the parameter/s you want to be displayed in the parts list and select OK. Notice the new property was added to the Selected Properties list. Select OK to see your parameter in the Parts List.
Go ahead and make changes to the part parameters and notice it will associatively update in the parts list.

The blog police are going to come and get me!
I have a good excuse really - we have been super busy getting ready for the release of Inventor 11 and I was foolish enough to take a vacation to Disneyland in the middle of it! See proof of my children at Knotts Berry Farm!
Beta is in full swing, we've started training sales people and AE's and tomorrow we are hosting a 2 day technical press event here in Portland. You'll start seeing more and more about R11 here and elsewhere as we start our public launch activities. Perhaps you caught Martyn Day's sneak peak a few weeks ago. He highlights just a few of the cool new features in R11.
Also I owe Steve McCarthy at cadgneto.blogs.com an apology... He's actually from Canada -- NOT the UK.
