What do you think of the new look? Nice job Mr. Repp.
We mentioned a couple of months ago that one of the key goals of Ellipsis is to open up the request lines and explore some of your everyday design challenges that Inventor can address, and ultimately allow you to focus on design and engineering instead of using Inventor just as a geometry creation tool.
This entry is exactly that. I had a customer ask how to create a castellated beam. They were aware of the Content Center and the ability to bring in a W beam, and then make edits to it, but they knew there had to be an easier way. Let’s take it a step further and associate the number of cut outs with the length of the beam if it adjusts in length, and one more – make this available in Frame Generator.

Here is a short video that walks you through creating a custom library, associating the number of features based upon the length of a part, and redefining an entire family of components. There are a few other useful tidbits in there as well so grab a coffee, a doughnut, and your headphones, I think you’ll like this one.

I had to wait a minute and it showed up. Hey Brian, can you get me a faster machine :)

Oh, I don't have to add my part to the CC AND Structural Shape??? That's helpful. I used "Send Feedback" at the lower-right to submit my request... Is that the recommended method to contact you? I'm interested in getting the Beam/Column calculator to figure the Ij ("eye-sub-jay", Sectional Modulus) for our custom extrusion shapes. What Parameters (in the CC) would be required to have this functionality available?

Well, I have developed special interest in frame generator, I'll try to put some tutorials on my Blog - http://CADProfessor.in Cheers, Sunith Babu L

Hi John - I'm not aware of an ability to link the Beam / Column calculator to the Frame Generartor components while placing frame members. That doesn't necessarily prevent you from using the two as a test / validate then place workflow. Anyone have other ideas?... -Rob

Thanks, Rob :-) Garin - we just need to get you off of 56k!

Hi Rob Good vids. Customer request- trimming frame gen members that are created on curves. Any ideas?

  • June 17, 2009 12:21 PM Rob Cohee

Hey Greg. What we have to do today is to use Copy Object on curved members. Edit the part you need to trim, then select Copy Object. Copy the surface you would like to use as the cutting plane then you could either use Sculpt or Split to remove the solid. Sorry for the delayed response btw... I need to figure out how to get notified when people comment... [grin]
