Ok, since my travel story didn’t get a single comment I’ll write something work related then…
Imagine modeling a curved surface driving hundreds of individual parts, both exterior parts and internal structural components – a roof structure if you will. Now make all of the parts associative, and tweak the curvature of the structure 1 deg.
What if you could run through those design iterations in real time? Almost molding the shape that you want; visualizing the changes you are making in real time rather than waiting for the model to update. Oh, and place rules on it so that you don’t over extend the design past it’s physical capabilities. Sounds complicated lots of spreadsheets, adaptivity, projected geometry…. Ugghh, right?

Wrong. Check out this use of Revit to Inventor through iLogic functionality, and back to Revit. Real time design iteration allowing the designer to run through any variation of a design to optimize the aesthetic appeal while maintaining the structural limits set forth during the structures definition.

"Where does he get all those wonderful toys?" :) Good stuff Rob! I have been playing around with iLogic a lot and I truly love it. Can't wait to see what the future brings. Oh, and your "Planes, Trains, Call-Girls, and Bartenders" story was pretty entertaining too. :)

Thanks Brian. That trip was crazy. Top it off I think it was the last leg of a three week run. Yeah, I'm pumped about iLogic too. It's funny, someobody showed this app called Grasshopper to me and said it was the bomb. I figured we could do better and sure enough, we can - what do you know ;-).... The thing about this is that each part can be taken out, detailed and spit out to CAM, published to Revit, rendered in Showcase - oh, that gives me an idea...

That was an awesome demonstration of interoperability Rob. I will be forwarding your clip to a number of my coworkers who will, I think, be equally impressed. What technology tool did you use to record the demo? Camtasia? What ever it was, we gotta be getting us some o' that. Thanks.

Hey Sam. Yes we use Camtasia Studio for screen recordings. Adobe has a nice app too called Captivate, little more pricey but many people claim its worth the difference in cost.

Rob, that was spectacular! Love the iLogic. Keep up the good work.

Hi, Rob iLogic is a very powerful tool. We need more information and examples like this. Excellent video, Congratulations!

I think Jay might be working on something using iLogic too, stay tuned.
