July 9, 2008, 12:25 PM Garin Gardiner
The concept of a skeleton model is a powerful method to have a single sketch drive multiple parts. This is a very robust way to set up relationships between parts and assemblies that doesnt require adaptivity or projecting edges and maintain a relationship.
This episode we see how a sketch is created and used in a skeleton model to maintain the relationship between components.

Good insight into this powerful design technique. Is there any way to adapt this technique to the part? I'm wondering if I can have one skeleton derive all the parts that share the profile? Steve

Steve, You should be able to do much the same work flow with one extra step. Create your main skeleton as a part and another part for the cross section, insert them into an assembly and constrain them together as necessary. You can then use that assembly just as we used the single part. If you make changes to the cross section part it will update the assembly and any other part it is derived into.

Can you make this example available for download? It might be helpful to me to disect it for more specifics on the approach you've demonstrated.
