Managing 700,000 parts
September 14, 2006, 11:20 PM Andrew de LeonIf you're anything like me, when you install AutoCAD Mechanical you select every option possible including all of the standards because you never know when a project will come up that needs DIN fasteners, GB steel shapes or JIS radial bearings. The only problem with this is managing all 700,000 standard parts when all you need for the current project are a select few fasteners, bearings and steel shapes from the ANSI standard. So how do you go about filtering the library?
The first step I normally take is to move the standards I don't need for the current project from the Selected Standards column to the Available Standards column. Once that's done, I re-order the standards in the Selected Standards column so that the standard I use most of the time is at the top.
For the unfamiliar, launch Options and select the AM:Standard Parts tab. In the bottom left corner there are 2 lists; Available Standards and Selected Standards. Simply move the standards you don't need from the Selected Standards column to the Available Standards column using the left and right arrows. Then use the up and down arrows to order the remaining standards.

Next time you go to the standard parts library, only those standards listed in the Selected Standards column will be loaded and the standard you use most of the time will be first in the list.
