Overview of Simple BOM reporting – AutoCAD Electrical
AutoCAD Electrical EtceteraBrief overview of how two different databases are queried to create various AutoCAD Electrical BOM reports. This question comes up from time to time, most recently today. Here is a brief summary in the form of screenshots illustrating how a component on an AutoCADElectrical drawing (amechanical footprint symbol on a panel layout drawing) finds its way [...]

I am making a list and checking it twice
It is Alive in the LabAutodesk is getting more involved with social media. Project Bluestreak is a great example. To try to make some sense of our increased involvement, I updated our social media page on the Autodesk Labs site to list the various social meda resources that Autodesk Labs is involved with:

I will keep this up to date as our running list.
Being sociable is alve in the lab.

Attend the See the Difference with AutoCAD 2010 Virtual!
Lynn Allen's blogYesterday I presented at aSee the Difference event in Rochester, NY (Henrietta actually). Adraftdid a great job at this half day event that was focused on all things AutoCAD. Robert Green kicked the event off with a presentation on keeping your skills up to date and making yourself more valuable to your company. I followed with my AutoCAD 2010 presentation and the day was finished off by some great breakouts that tackled topics such as Annotation Scaling, Dynamic Blocks and Parametrics. The topics all sounded so compelling I couldn't decide which one to attend! Below is a picture of the Adraft staff- I just couldn't say enough nice things about how well they ran this event. It was an absolute pleasure working with them and I hope to do so again in the future.Adraft CEOJulia Grant, front center, starting using AutoCAD over 20 years ago! Robert Green is on my right. If you missed the See The Difference with AutoCAD 2010Tour events - be sure to join us virtually on Tuesday, November 17. As an added attraction - you'll get to hear fromfellow blogger Heidi Hewett who will do an entire session on 3D AutoCAD! I think I just might need to tune into that! Check out this virtual event - it's as close to LIVE as you can get!

Multiple Monitor Troubles
Autodesk Manufacturing Northern EuropeI'm sure many of you have suffered the same issue that I have when using multiple monitors on your desktop workstation or an extra monitor with your laptop. You plug in at the office, make use of having the extra screen area, then off out to see a customer or off home only to find that when you're working on your laptop the dialogue boxes that you moved to the other screen in the office are now sat off the screen on your laptop! How on earth can you move or access a dialogue box that you can't see?
Well, my colleague Justin Hoey based in the US posted this great tip on his YouTube Channel recently that shows you exactly how to retrieve those missing dialogue boxes:
We've just used it here in Ireland with Autodesk Vault Manufacturing to retrieve a settings dialogue that was somewhere off screen and it worked perfectly!
Thanks Justin.

Quote: Because Autodesk's products are cheap and used for relatively
unimportant tasks, such as drafting, customers can get by without upgrading
them or renewing their subscriptions during tough times. In contrast, the
products of Dassault Systmes and Parametric Technology are critical to newproduct development.
That has to be one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard. And I'm sure even the Solidworks and PTC guys are level headed enough to agree.
Relatively unimportant? Personally I take offense at the statement as should all Inventor users.
