Inventor 11: DWG interoperability eases burden of legacy data transition
DWG Interoperability
Autodesk Inventor provides a streamline migration path to 3D design, especially when it comes to moving legacy drawings and data. As companies transition from 2D to 3D, they need to leverage and maintain legacy design data, as well as pass data downstream to customers’ applications. With the Inventor product series, you can maintain DWG data and drawings.
DWG Wizard
Autodesk Inventor contains a unique DWG import wizard that walks customers through the task of importing exactly what is needed for their new design. The Wizard supports WYSIWYG, Layers, Zoom, Pan, and even window-select capabilities for selecting and importing only the data you need.
Copy/Paste DWG
New to Autodesk Inventor 11 is the ability to Copy/Paste DWG directly from AutoCAD to Inventor. This provides our customers with yet another option for reusing DWG data to create 3D models. For instance, Inventor will maintain the original AutoCAD dimensions and boasts an auto-dimension command.
DWG Export
In addition to our fine import capabilities, Autodesk Inventor offers excellent DWG export capabilities ensuring that all DWG files exported from Inventor are visually complete, geometrically accurate, and organized in a manner that is consistent with AutoCAD conventions (layers, text styles, dimension styles, etc).
Export Face/Sketch
New to Inventor 11 is the ability to export a 2D-sketch or selected face directly to DWG/DXF. This helps customers supply 2D data for NC purposes such as wire/plasma cutting machines for sheet metal.
3D DWG
Autodesk Inventor 11 now exports 3D solid data in DWG format, providing another option for sharing Inventor data. Customers can now share their 3D design directly with AutoCAD users in their native file format (AutoCAD DWG) without having to go through a neutral file such as STEP/IGES.
