One of the most time consuming stages in the creation of mechanical drawings is often annotating them, especially symbols. Many AutoCAD users have a series of symbols created as blocks, which they insert, explode, and modify as needed; however, this process is tedious and very time consuming.
In AutoCAD Mechanical, creating symbols not only becomes easier, but it's also less time consuming, as each symbol has its own command to assist in its creation and placement within the drawing. For example, if you need a welding symbol, use the AMWELDSYM command; if you need a surface texture symbol, use the AMSURFSYM command and follow the prompts.
Below are some examples of AutoCAD Mechanical 2008's symbols (created using the ISO Standard).

If you’re not familiar with AutoCAD Mechanical, you’ll find all the symbol commands within the Dashboard (if you’re using the Essential or Structure workspace in AutoCAD Mechanical 2008).

Or within the AM:Annotation toolbar (if you’re using the Classic workspace or an older release).
